I graduated from high school with Paul and would often drive him home after school since we did not live too far from each other. On a snowy day in January 1974 a vehicle pulled out in front of us at an intersection without stopping or looking our way near the tobacco warehouse in Viroqua in front of the Tubb home. Unable to stop, I ran into the vehicle at the driver side door shattering the side window. Fortunately, no one was hurt and property damage was minor. It wasn’t a big deal but it sure stirred the emotions of a couple of juniors in high school and gave us something to talk about for months to come. At the time we thought we were pretty cool driving around in my 1966 Ford with an FM converter. The song “Heaven Hell on Wheels ” by Paul McCartney and Wings was playing at the time and we were jamming out to that. I regret not connecting with him as the years went by. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. His dad was my dentist and to this day I have a filling that Dr. Wayne Cook put in. If I behaved well at the dentist my parents would take me for a treat at Viroqua Dairy. God bless Paul’s memory.
