A. Regina Schulte

Regina’s life began on August 15, 1928 in Parsons, Kansas. She was the third of seven daughters born to Agnes (Schoenhofer) and Roderick Hall.

From early childhood Regina knew that teaching would be her career (“it’s in my corpuscles”) and wanted it to be in Catholic schools. She received her bachelor’s degree from St. Mary of the Plains College in Kansas, and began teaching in parochial schools of the Wichita Diocese. After earning a Master’s degree in theology at the University of Notre Dame, she taught at St. Mary of the Plains College and Mount St. Mary’s in Wichita. During this time she also began writing for the diocesan newspaper and playing a leadership role in the catechetical work of the diocese.

After earning her Ph.D. in theology at Marquette University, Regina spent the rest of her life and career in the Milwaukee area. She taught moral theology at St. Francis de Sales Seminary and Cardinal Stritch College.

Her concern for women’s causes led to a dual career; in addition to her theology, she entered the business world and began educating women about investing and personal financial planning. She and her husband, James H. Schulte as corporate partners, established Investment Services of Wisconsin, Inc. in Brookfield for that purpose.

She taught classes for women at Carroll College, Waukesha, and Cardinal Stritch College (both now universities) and was a frequent speaker for conferences, seminars, and other group gatherings.

After retiring from business (but never from action), Regina’s full time mission was to apply theological perspectives to contemporary concerns in the Church and the world. She contributed numerous essays, opinion pieces, and book reviews in a variety of publications and occasionally was a featured speaker at conventions and conferences.

Her husband, James, was the equal partner in her career, as she was in his, until his death in 2008.

Regina was also predeceased by two of her sisters. Those surviving her are Helena (Allen, deceased) Ross of Grand Junction, Colorado; Jane (Patrick) Misasi of Pittsburg, Kansas; Peggy (Francis) McElgunn of Shawnee, Kansas; and Rosemary (Dale, deceased) White of Wichita, Kansas. Other survivors are nieces, nephews, numerous friends, colleagues, and beloved students.

According to her wish, there will be no funeral service. Burial of her ashes will be beside those of her husband in Holy Cross Cemetery, Racine, Wisconsin. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
