Schulz, Agnes Liane Mathilda

(nee Heckendorf)

On July 4, 1913 the Lord blessed Albert and Mathilda Heckendorf with a daughter, Agnes Liane Mathilda, the 12th of 13 children. In His infinite wisdom, the Lord called Agnes to her eternal home in heaven on May 8th, 2018, at the age of 104.

Agnes became a child of God and heir of heaven through Holy Baptism on July 20th, 1913 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Town Jackson. After being instructed in the truths of God’s Word, she publicly confessed her faith in the Triune God at her Confirmation on March 28, 1926, promising with the help of God, to be faithful until death. Her Confirmation verse was Romans 1:16 – “I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.” She was confirmed by Pastor Martin Buerger at Immanuel Lutheran.

Immanuel Lutheran was also where Agnes was united in marriage to Pastor Wilbert E. Schulz on May 24, 1936. The Lord blessed this marriage with three sons, Ronald, Wayne, and Martin. By God’s grace they celebrated 66 years of marriage.

As a young bride, it was quite an adventure leaving home for the first time as they went to the state of Washington where Wilbert served three congregations in Mansfield, Withrow, and Leavenworth. This was the first of many moves since Wilbert served congregations in Merrill, Wonewoc, Denmark, Cambria, and Tomah, WI, and Renville and Moorhead, MN, and ending his ministry at St. Stephen’s in Beaver Dam, WI.

In all these moves, Agnes was his supportive wife as she served alongside him. Wherever they went, she made every place they lived “home”. She was a real homemaker and hostess on many occasions. Her “business” as she called it, was all the canning of fruits, vegetables, jams and juices for the family. She was a very capable baker, and her famous handmade angel food cakes were requested for many birthday celebrations. Later in life she confessed that she really didn’t like angel food cake! We can best describe Agnes as a “wife of noble character” according to Proverbs 31.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Wayne, seven brothers, five sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and a great-granddaughter.

She leaves to mourn her death yet celebrate her victory over death through Jesus, 2 sons – Ronald (Barbara) of Buckeye, AZ; Martin (Karen) of Greenfield, WI; her daughter-in-law Anita (Ronald) Hahm of Cottage Grove, WI, and her daughter-in-law Ruth (Dick) of Phoenix, AZ. 12 grandchildren – Daniel (Wendy) Schulz of Colorado; David (Donna) Schulz of Arizona; Kristiana of Arizona; Jonathon (Barbara) Schulz of WI; Pastor Joel (Dawn) Schulz of Florida; Pastor Jason (Jeannie) Schulz of Nebraska; Janine (Pastor James) Turriff of Tennessee; Pastor Jeremy (Amanda) Schulz of Washington; Juliane (Peter) Naumann of Washington, Jeffrey (Kimberly) Schulz of Colorado; Pastor Marcus (Lori) Schulz of WI; Pastor Paul (Anna) Schulz of California; 32 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
May God comfort all who mourn her death with the certainty of a blessed reunion in heaven with all who fall asleep in Jesus. May God also teach us to apply our hearts unto believing in Jesus Christ, our victorious and living Savior. Amen.

Funeral services will be held at DAVID’S STAR LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2740 David’s Star Dr., Jackson, WI, on Wednesday, May 16th, at 3PM, with the visitation beginning at 1PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to WELS Home Missions appreciated.
