Aivars Andrejs
Zeps

Zeps, Aivars Andrejs M.D.
Age 83, passed away suddenly early in the morning on Friday, April 9, 2010. Beloved husband of Mara nee Libants. Devoted teti of Melissa Matias Hernandez and doting grandpa of Zachary and Frank.

Aivars was born in Latvia and went through difficult years during and after World War II. He lived in a displaced persons camp in Lubeck, Germany for 5 years. He immigrated to the United States in 1950 when he earned a scholarship to Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska. After his undergraduate degree, he was accepted to Marquette Medical School Medical College of Wisconsin. He graduated in 1956 and worked as a dedicated physician until he retired in 1998.

Aivars was preceded in death by his parents Jazeps and Anna, and infant brother, and his brother UW linguistics professor, Valdis.

Besides his immediate family he is survived by sister in law Betty Zeps, nieces and nephews, Valdis Jr., goddaughter Dace, Baiba, Vilis and their families, as well as other dear family members and friends here and in Latvia.

Aivars and Mara’s home for 38 years was Regency House on Astor Street. They enjoyed the breath taking view of sunrises on Lake Michigan each morning, as well as the friendliness of neighbors and helpful staff.

A special time was spent at their condo in Vail, Colorado. For 27 years it was shared with family and friends engaging in summer and winter activities in the awesome natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains.

Aivars was proud of his Latvian heritage and participated and contributed in many social and cultural activities. He was a member of the Latvian Ev. Lutheran Holy Trinity Church in Milwaukee.

Aivars enjoyed nature to the utmost. He saw the beauty in every season, wanted to protect every tree, treat the lakes and its shores gently, thus such one special place was in Michigan and honoring that in lieu of flowers memorials to the Latvian Center Garezers would be appreciated.

Visitation, Wednesday at WISCONSIN MEMORIAL PARK, CHAPEL OF THE CHIMES, 13235 West Capitol Drive from 10-11AM with a funeral service at 11AM.
