In Loving Memory of a Beloved Wife, Mother, and Grandmother

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arlene Marie Walczak (née Tunnell), who left this world on May 16, 2023. She was surrounded by her loving family, who were there to provide comfort and support during her final moments. While we grieve her loss, we also celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the indelible mark she left on our lives.

Born on May 2, 1943 to Lucius (Joe) and Rose Tunnell, Arlene was a woman of great strength and compassion. A natural teacher, she received her undergraduate degree in Education from Macalester College.  She taught English and Spanish for more than 25 years at Samuel Morse Junior High and Custer High School, finishing at Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha, WI.

Arlene possessed a deep passion for life and an insatiable curiosity that led her and her husband of 53 years, John R. Walczak, on countless adventures. She always had a (often mischievous) twinkle in her eye, a song on her lips, and her laughter was contagious. Her legacy lives on through cherished memories, and she will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones. Arlene leaves behind her beloved husband, John, who shared a bond of love and companionship that was nothing short of extraordinary, and their three daughters, Kathryn, Suzanne, and Joanna, and respective families including 5 grandsons whom she loved dearly.

She also leaves behind her sister, Anita (Tunnell) Hoover and family as well as her dear brother and sister-in-law Jim and Judy Walczak and their family.

Though our hearts ache with her absence, we find solace in knowing that she is at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her including her parents Lucius (Joe) and Rose Tunnell, sister Judy Carian, nephew Peter Carian, and granddaughter Kaelly Walczak-Thomas.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 23rd from 4-6pm at Heritage Funeral Home in Greenfield, WI.  At 6pm there will be a celebration of life service followed by dinner at Meyer’s Restaurant.

In honor of Arlene, please consider wearing bright, cheerful colors and bring your favorite stories about her to share.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Smile Train, a cause dear to Arlene’s heart.

Arlene, rest peacefully knowing that you will be deeply missed, but your legacy will live on through the love we share and the lives we touch.

Arlene’s presence was commanding, and, at the same time, deeply encouraging. She remains one of the best mentors and great wits I have known. I missed her when I left CHM; i miss her today.

We are missing that smile of yours. You were a cheerful person and that could be realized at first sight.
We thank you for being you and we pray the Lord comforts all the broken hearts.

    John and family,
I have fond memories of Arlene, her love of Spanish, broad smile, and quick wit. It was a pleasure
to teach alongside her at CMH, and enjoy her presence at our retiree luncheons, She always had
lots of fun things to share. Our own health issues will prevent Ron & I from actually attending the
funeral service on Tuesday. Our prayers are with you all,

I am another who had not seen Arlene since high school, but I remember her strong spirit and beautiful voice from our Waukesha High School production of Brigadoon. She was a good friend and a leader even back then. I send my condolences and a virtual hug to her husband, daughters and grandsons!

Whenever Arlene Tunnel came to mind,, I could see her, and hear her singing her solo’s in Brigadoon. She left an indelible impression. She had a beautiful voice
and did such good work in the school plays. We were class mates but we never befriended each other. I haven’t seen her since 1961 but always remember her
as a beautiful person with a smile and sweet voice. And such a beautiful soprano. Surprised she ended up a teacher, not in theater. God bless you
Arlene, as He surely did in life here on earth. Sending condolences to the family.
