Berka, Beatrice M.
nee Lewison Of Racine, WI. Passed away September 6, 2010 at the age of 80 years. Born on September 29, 1929 in Hixton, Wisconsin to parents Jorgine and Alfred Lewison. She met her beloved Robert in Milwaukee and after 10 days he was transferred to England with the United States Air Force. After numerous letters he asked her to come to England to marry him. She sailed to England on the Queen Elizabeth and on May 8, 1952 they were married. They started their family in England, moved back to the U.S., and moved throughout the country raising them, spending the majority of their time in Washington State. Eventually settling back in Wisconsin where they both had family.
Survived by her daughters Ann Berka of Racine, Vickie Strasburg of Oak Creek, Laurie Smetek of Grand Prairie, TX, and Georgene Dennis Zeisse of Burlington; grandchildren Joe Smetek of West Virginia, Tony Zeisse of Burlington, Bill Strasburg of Caledonia, Krissy Smetek of Cudahy, Jessi Zeisse of Waukesha, and Randall Tiffany Zeisse of Waterford; granddaughter-in-law Justine Zeisse of Burlington; great-grandchildren Bradley Smetek of West Virginia and Nora Zeisse of Burlington; brother-in-law Mike Nerby; sister-in-law Bernice Duerr, Marion Berka, Charlene Leroy Lenzen, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by her husband Robert Berka; parents Alfred and Jorgine Lewison; father-in-law Thomas Berka; mother-in-law Anna Berka; siblings Adele Lawrence Roy Russell Pfeiffer, Mildred Gerald Hoff, Alden LucilleLewison, Arlene Larry Schmid, Inez Nerby, Harley Ruth Lewison, and Richard Berka; other family and friends.
She stayed at home and raised her girls. She was active in Girl Scouts, a Brownie Troop Leader, and Camp Fire Girls. She loved a good time and had a great sense of humor. She loved getting together with family and friends, laughing and having a good time. One of her greatest joys was taking her entire family to Jamaica for her grandson’s wedding where she waded in the ocean.
She was an active member of the Harvey Funk Legion Post 494 Auxiliary for many years.
Special thanks to Dr. Lisa Simonds and staff and the staff of Home Harbor for their continuous care and concern. Hospice Alliance and Lincoln Village gave her family great relief that she had the best care available.
Visitation will be held Friday, at the Funeral Home, from 4 6 PM. Funeral Service will follow at 6 PM. Interment at Oak Grove Cemetery.
