Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2009. Beloved husband for 51 years of Esther nee McCarthy. Cherished father of Mary Brigid Gordy, Thomas Amy, and Anne. Treasured grandfather of Colleen, Christopher, Emily, Madeline and Sophia.

Bernie grew up on Milwaukee’s south side, served with the U.S. Army in World War II, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked 30 years at Allis-Chalmers and 15 years at Wisconsin Electric Power, retiring in 1984. Bernie enjoyed a long and fulfilling retirement. He loved spending time with family, and supported his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. Bernie lived his faith, and was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Parish for more than 50 years. He was kind and gentle, and appreciated life’s gifts until the end.

Memorials in Bernie’s name to Catholic Charities Ministry to Persons with Disabilities or to St. Gregory the Great would be welcomed.

Visitation will be Monday at ST. GREGORY THE GREAT, S. 60th and W. Oklahoma Ave, from 9:30-11AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM. Private interment Monday afternoon at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
