Carol Bastian nee Trottner

Was given her 89th birthday gift one day early, August 16th 2012, when she was reunited with her devoted husband of 60 years, Cliff. Carol graduated from St. Felix H.S. in Wabasha, MN and completed her nurses training at St. Catherine’s in Minneapolis. She joined the Army Nurses Corp while she waited for her “Hammurabi” the lawgiver to return from the war. They were married October 29th, 1946 and spent a month honeymooning in New Orleans. It was here that Cliff began serving her breakfast in bed EVERY MORNING. It became a tradition which lasted 20 years, ending only when she decided to return to nursing at Milwaukee County Hospital NICU after raising 7 children. Carol was an avid reader and loved to travel. When they weren’t traveling, Carol would find any excuse to have a party. She was a member of the Lamster Neuman Post 2787 Auxiliary for over 50 years.

Her welcoming smile and kind gentleness will always be remembered by her grandchildren Kirin, Kara, Laurel, Jennie, Erin, Katie, Patrick, Karen, Louis, Kenny, Becky, Russ, Sue, Julie, Annie, Dan, dear family friend and spiritual guide, Alice Hatzenbeller, and her 15 great- grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Olive Riley Steward, sister in law Eleanor Trottner, brother in law, Robert Bastian and many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her favorite children, Jane Al Schmidt, Bobbie the late Tony Ditscheit, Jack Jane Bastian, Sam Bastian, Beth Terry Fellabaum, Bill Karen Bastian, and youngest, Carol Bastian. Carol was a strong believer in sharing her blessings and has asked that in lieu of flowers you carry on that tradition and send a gift to your favorite charity. Visitation will be held Friday, August 31st at St. Matthias Church, S. 93rd St. and W. Beloit Rd. in Milwaukee from 4-6pm, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 6pm. Internment Saturday, September 1st at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 3801 W. Morgan Ave. at 11:00am.
