Cezary “Czarek” Stepien husband to Marianna Stepien and father to Steven Stepien was born on March 19th 1958 in Warsaw, Poland. Growing up in Poland at the time wasn’t easy so he sought a better future in the United States. At 18 years old, leaving his family and birthplace behind he left Poland, first making a stop at a Austrian refugee camp before immigrating to New York City in 1976. He would go on to move to Chicago. Then Milwaukee where he met his wife. They would go on to have one son.
After working for years as a machinist he decided to start his own business in order to have a more stable financial future for his family. In 2004 he started his own business, Old World Deli. He may have left Poland behind at a young age but he never forgot where he came from. With his business he sought to bring Polish foods and customs to the Milwaukee area. Unfortunately, shortly after starting his business he was diagnosed with Leukemia and would fight his condition for 17 years. As a young man he loved music and was an avid record collector. He loved running his business, entertaining his friends and would often spend late nights reading about history and politics.
After a two month battle with pneumonia and chronic lung conditions, on June 30th 2021, Cezary at the age of 63, died in his sleep at home, surrounded by his loving family.
