Christopher Alan Lukas (1955-2024)
Christopher (Chris) Alan Lukas lived an incredible life that ended on June 5, 2024 at the young age of 69. Chris was born May 17, 1955 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Stanley and Patricia Lukas. Chris grew up in the home his father built with his mother and four siblings. Chris attended St. Gregory Catholic School, Bell Junior High, and Alexander Hamilton High School (class of 1973).
Chris and his former wife Lynn raised their two children, Sarah and Anthony, in the Milwaukee area. Chris then met Kathy, a fellow Milwaukee County employee, in 2007. After deciding to spend their lives together, they began building their Frank Lloyd Wright prairie-style home in 2012.
Chris was a hard-working man, deeply dedicated to providing for those around him. Chris began his career as a newspaper carrier for the Milwaukee Journal, followed by employment at McDonald’s. Afterward, he joined the Milwaukee County Parks Department, where he held various roles, including one at the iconic Mitchell Park Domes. Chris later accepted a position managing the maintenance department at Mitchell International Airport where he worked until retirement in 2017.
In addition to Chris’s dedication to his career, he was a true craftsman with an insatiable appetite for learning. He excelled at woodworking, crafting various pieces such as a mid-century bed and kitchen cabinetry. At the time of his passing, Chris was building an acoustic guitar, even fashioning his own tools for the project. Chris was also an avid gardener growing everything from raspberries and cherries to kale and zucchini. And the thing about Chris was, he never kept his wealth of knowledge to himself; he was eager to spread his expertise to his loved ones.
Beyond Chris’s passion for independent hobbies, he enjoyed motorcycle and bicycle trips with family and friends. In retirement, he became even more of a travel enthusiast with his partner, Kathy. Together, they spent the past several years exploring the United States in their RV, as well as traveling throughout Europe.
Chris is preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Patricia (nee Kaye) Lukas and brother Jonathan Lukas. Chris was the loving father of Sarah (Tom Lucas) Lukas and Anthony Lukas, proud Papa of grandson Ethan Nitkowski, and loving partner of Kathryn Rudolph. Chris is survived by his former wife Lynn Lukas, sisters Kathleen Lukas-Miller (Michael Miller) and Suzanne (Russell) Koss, and brother Daniel (Amy) Lukas. Chris was a caring and supportive uncle to Alana Stramowski (Len Rundblad), Aimee Stramowski, Emily Koss, Jonathan Lukas, Eleanor Lukas, Theodore Lukas, and Josephine Lukas. Chris will be greatly missed by his fur baby companions Hildegard and Elvis.
A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 1:00-3:00 pm, followed by a time of sharing at 3:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home: 9200 S. 27th St. Oak Creek, WI 53154. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Alzheimer’s Association. Chris was a passionate supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association after his mother passed away from the disease. He participated in many “Walk To End Alzheimer’s” events and was the photographer at a Green Bay National Railroad Museum fundraiser. Donations can be made at bit.ly/CLukas.
It was great working with Chris. He was a friend and a coworker. Rest in peace my friend.
Chris was an amazing man, mentor, and boss. He was kind, generous, and patient. He will be truly missed.
Chris was one of the good guys. I enjoyed working with him and he was always upbeat. I wish peace and comfort for Kathy and his children. Rest assured that he will be sorely missed and remembered fondly.
Chris,
You were a great boss, a friend to us plumber’s (I think mainly because your dad was one) You were kind, generous, and always available if us tradesmen needed to get an approval. You were one of the best bosses I ever had. May you rest in peace.
Rest in peace Chris. I have fond memories of working with you in the maintenance department at the airport.
My condolences to your family.
On behalf of everyone here at the Alzheimer’s Association – thank you so much for thinking of us at this time of loss to your family. Memorial donations made in Christopher’s name will be put to immediate use serving families and supporting research. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Dave Grams, Executive Director
I last talked with my cousin Chris at our family reunion held out at my cousins Jane’s house a few years ago. We had a wonderful time together, catching up on our various life experiences. My condolences to the entire Lukas family at this time. I will be thinking about all of you this Saturday during his memorial service.
