Coreen H. Petta nee Hoppe
Born November 2, 1921 in Milwaukee, WI. Born to Eternal Life June 6, 2001 in Whitewater, WI. She was a resident of Palmyra, WI. The beloved wife of Dr. Andrew Petta, of Palmyra; survived by three daughters; Sandi Petta of Las Vegas, NV; Andreen Bruce of Oregon, WI; and Susan Nokes of Poulsbo, WA; further survived by grandchildren: Captain Erik Bruce, USAF currently in Germany; Steven Bruce of Madison, WI. Gina Nokes of Bremerton, WA and Timothy Nokes of Poulsbo, WA; also survived by two great grandchildren; Alekxander Bruce and Jordyn currently in Germany; other relatives and friends.
Coreen was born in Milwaukee a baptized as Coreen Louise Hoppe at Church of Gesu in Milwaukee, her middle name after Aunt Louise Schottler nee OTT. Coreen made her First Holy Communion on May 6, 1934 at St Sebastian’s Catholic Church in Wauwatosa. She was later confirmed in the same church. Her family lived in the ”Highlands” of Wauwatosa. Daughter of Dr. Herbert O. Hoppe and Lorraine Linger. Coreen attended Washington and Roosevelt Elementary Schools and Wauwatosa High School graduating in the class of 1939. She attended Marquette University pursuing a Liberal Arts Major in 1940. She graduated from Miss Brown’s School of Business in 1941.
She married Dr. Andrew Phillip Petta on September 11, 1944 at St Sebation’s Church in Wauwatosa. Coreen and Andrew moved to Palmyra in August of 1950. In 1963 they moved to their new home at 705 Wisconsin St. where she has since resided.
Coreen loved to sing. Her favorite Religious song was ”Ave Maria” as arranged by Schubert and was known for her solo at Christmas times in the Old St Mary’s Catholic Church. Her favorite Secular song was: ”Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life” by Young/Herbert which she would sing at the ”Silver DollarBar/Night Club” owned by Mike and Sibyl Schweitzer. Coreen sang for benefits in both West Bend and Palmyra.
Visitation will be at St Mary’s Catholic Church at 919 W. Main St. Palmyra on Monday June 11th from 9:30-11:00 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM. Internment St. Mary’s Cemetery. Msr. John Hebl officiating.
