David A. Larson

Born on February 20, 1934, was baptized into the faith on March 10th, 1934 and entered eternal glory on February 20th, 2024, age 90. Beloved husband of the late Ruth for nearly 57 years. Loving father of Karin (David) Slovik, Susan (David) Holm, Mark (Debbie) Larson, and Paul (Diana) Larson. Beloved grandfather of 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Brother of the late James (Jane) Larson and the late Jon (Anne) Larson. Brother-in-law of the late Robert and Carol Weigend and the late Joyce Hurd. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dave led a very active and fulfilling life. In his youth, he attended St. Marcus School in Milwaukee. He graduated from Washington High School. He excelled in figure skating and considered skating with The Ice Capades Shows. He then went on to UW-Madison but his studies were interupted by a term in the US Army. In the Army he served as a medic and on the rifle team. He later in life finished his degree in Chemical Engineering at UW-Milwaukee.

He met the love of his life, Ruth, and they were married in May of 1957. They were married for 57 years. They went on to have and raise four children and later on also a niece. Presently there are 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren (with more to come).

God and Country were important to Dave, he was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for over 60 years. Serving various roles such as an Elder and Sunday School teacher. He attended church and Bible studies regularly, he wanted to be a spiritual leader and role model for his family and others.

Dave was very active in the Oak Creek Community. He was a member of the Jaycees, he ran pagents and volleyball tournaments. He also served as a tennis instructor (the sport he loved) and for decades ran lessons and tennis tournaments for Oak Creek Parks and Recreation.

He enjoyed pheasant and goose hunting with his dear friend Fred and fishing with his late brother Jim and family.

He retired from AC Spark Plug (General Motors), it was there he worked on the space program and also as a Metalurgist and Chemical Engineer.

After retirement, he went on to get his teaching license so he could teach and also coach the sport he loved, TENNIS. He coached at Wisconsin Lutheran College until his late 70’s and then he retired to care for his wife, Ruth. The schools he taught at the most often were, Oak Creek and Wisconsin Lutheran High School.

With friends and family he enjoyed making old fashioneds. He also enjoyed going out for Friday night fish fries and pizza nights. He continued to live in Oak Creek for a total of 62 years.

The family would like to thank his caregivers, those at the Cornerstone in Oak Creek, the wonderful staff at the Ivy Manor in West Bend and the Hospice team from Preceptor (we couldn’t have it done without you).
