Dave passed from this life to be with our Lord on November 29, 2021. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 16, 1960 to Orian and Daryl Fonstad. He graduated from Milwaukee Lutheran High School. Dave served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Virginia Beach, Virginia from 1983 to 1991, serving some of that time overseas on the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea. After being honorably discharged he signed on to the Air National Guard and served over 10 years with the 128th Refueling Wing based in Milwaukee, WI. Family and friends were always so proud of all his service to his country, and those years held a special place in Dave’s life and heart. He then had the opportunity to work for Martin Luther High School in Greendale, WI, where he worked for 12 years as Custodian Extraordinaire. Anyone who was ever been in his house, basement, or garage and saw how spotless it was would know how perfect he was for this position. That skill carried over to his care and maintenance of his Corvette and his Harley Davidson motorcycle, which he and Marie took several excursions on. On trips to the family cottage in Waupaca WI he often went with his father to the old car shows in Iola, WI. He spent many happy hours enjoying his gorgeous flower beds, and he took real delight in showing them to friends and family when they visited. And if you knew Dave at all, you knew how much he loved cherry pie, jokingly telling Marie, Kris and Darilyn to not even bother with a get-together if there wasn’t cherry pie.

Dave is survived by his father Daryl Fonstad, sister Darilyn Nelson and husband Gene Sandvig, sister Kristin Knudsvig and husband Lee, and his devoted partner Marie Rajkovacz. Survivors also include niece Sarah (Nelson) Hotchkiss, husband Mike and their children, niece Inger (Nelson) LeClair, husband Christopher and their children, niece Alison (Knudsvig) Westermann, husband Ian and their children and nephew Brandon Knudsvig, wife Jen, and their child.

Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park, New Berlin, WI
