Nelson, David L.
David was welcomed into his Savior’s arms on Wednesday, July 1st, 2020, at the age of 73. Dave was known by all who knew him as having an adventurous spirit and charming sense of humor, tempered with tremendous patience and kindness.
He was the loving husband of Pennie (Serck) and beloved father of Josh (Erika), Hollie (Andy), Kevin (Amanda), and Katie (Jake). He deeply loved his 11 grandchildren: Ben, Addie, Theo, Abbie, Ellie, Will, Max, Nora, Emma, Charlie, and Louis. Preceded in death by his wife Pennie, his parents Linda and Adolph, his brother John, and his in-laws Irene and Francis Serck. He was also survived by sisters-in-law Patty (Keith) and Pam (Jim) and six nieces and nephews including Lisa, Ashleigh, Matthew Shannon, Kevin and Rebecca.
Dave was a role-model and mentor for thousands of students and the friends of his children. Within the span of his extraordinary life beginning August 3rd, 1946, in Brillion, WI he attended Fox Valley Lutheran High School and received his B.S. in education from Dr. Martin Luther College in 1968. David had well over a thousand students teaching 5th -8th grade and serving as principal in a career that spanned over 45 years.
An avid outdoors-man, he loved spending time canoeing, hunting, fishing, and hiking, especially with his children. He found great fulfillment in conversations with other people, serving as husband, father, teacher, brother, grandfather and friend.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 10am – 1pm, at Salem Lutheran Church (6840 N. 107th St. Milwaukee, WI 53224) with a Funeral Service at 1PM. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, everyone is asked to be patient and abide to social distancing guidelines. Everyone is welcome, but we are allowing a limited number of people in the building at any given time. Private family interment.
