David William Ross

David William Ross was called home to the Lord on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
David was born to the late Alexander James Ross and his wife, the late Barbara (née Oram Horsey) on October 16, 1948 in St. Paul, MN. He was baptized into the faith and later confirmed in April of 1962. His siblings are Christine Jacob, Elayn Ross and Floyd (Robin) Ross. His early years of education were in MN, and 5th grade through high school were in Franklin, WI. He entered the ROTC program at UWM after high school, but transferred to Dr. Martin Luther College to pursue a degree in education.
Dave married Leanne (née Zimmerman) on July 7, 1972. The couple have 6 children, Stephen (Christina), Daniel (Brianna), Michelle, Kristin (the late Steven) Burroughs, Jonathan (Lauren), and Benjamin (Sarah). His grandchildren are William and Elizabeth Ross; Eleanor, Josephine, and Vivian Ross; Kaelan Burroughs and Isabelle Fischer; Rowan and Aldo Ross. David took special care of Leanne’s parents, the late Don and Emily Zimmerman as they aged. His sisters- and brothers-in-law are Lois (Maynard) Kruse, Eileen (John) Draper, Don (Darlene) Zimmerman, Judith (Keith) Lauber, Janice (Steve) Georgson. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, and other friends and relatives.
While growing up, he played church ball pick-up basketball and was involved in community theatre. He worked several jobs including a truck farm, Mobile gas station and Tuckaway Golf Course. While in college he participated in soccer, basketball, band, choir and theatre productions. After college Dave taught for 35 years in the public ministry at Northwestern College and Prep School, St. Croix, Wisconsin Lutheran, and Minnesota Valley Lutheran High Schools, and at St. John’s Milwaukee, and Mt. Lebanon Lutheran grade schools. He was athletic director at several schools and also coached basketball and track for over 28 years. He taught science, math and computer science. He played brass instruments and drums, loved bowling and fishing and spectator sports of all kinds. In later years he was “house father” to many international students including Sam Qiu and Joon Su Lee for whom he set a Christian example.
He will be missed for modeling his Christian faith, his integrity, generosity and sense of humor.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm at MT. LEBANON LUTHERAN CHURCH (4809 N. 60th St. Milwaukee) with a funeral service to follow at 1:30 pm.
Memorial contributions to Mt. Lebanon Lutheran Church’s Rally the Family Fund and Wisconsin Lutheran High School’s Growing Opportunities Campaign are appreciated.

My condolences to the Ross family. Your father will be missed and he left many great memories. I am so glad I got a chance to meet him when I was working with his daughter Micki on San Carlos reservation. The Native Ministry was a great asset to have for the community. I see your father’s inspiration and dedication to help others in all your children. God bless your family in your time of need.

Thanks to Mr. Ross for being a patient and kind teacher when I was a student at Wisconsin Lutheran High School. Teaching me computer programming was not always easy(!) but I eventually go it, which was really cool..
I know he is safe with the Lord for his faith in Him. In pray you all find comfort and strength as you move forward (A memorial gift for Mt. Lebanon Rally the Family Fund has been given). Your sister in Christ, Kristin
