Diane K. Wernette
(née DeBattista)
With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a truly extraordinary woman.
Diane K. Wernette (née DeBattista) passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, surrounded by family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Diane is lovingly remembered by her children, Lisa, Gary, Steven, and Suzanne (Breslow). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Danielle Wernette, Hannah Breslow, and Gloria Breslow. Diane was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Wernette.
She was a devoted psychiatric nurse, respected nursing professor, home health director, a compassionate missionary in Haiti, and recipient of numerous nursing honors and awards- she dedicated her life to helping others. Her intelligence, kindness, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others touched thousands of lives, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was more than just a healer; she was a force of nature—fiercely loving, endlessly fun, and always the life of the party. She believed in celebrating life, whether it was through laughter, deep conversations, or shaking dice for a shot of Fireball. She had a special gift for connecting with people, especially those in need of healing, and she embraced them—just as she did with her own wonderfully wild and loving family and friends. As a mother, she instilled the values of respect, intelligence, and the boundless potential of all genders, races, nationalities and religions. She led by example, showing strength, compassion, and a zest for life that was nothing short of inspiring.
She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
What a wonderful tribute to an extraordinary person.
She will be missed. Diane was Loving, fun, always willing to help other people and a beautiful lady. Will miss her playing slots, dice and cards to win that shot of what wanted that night.
