Donald Marvin Oakes, Jr. was born to Eternal Life on November 26th, 2019 at the age of 67. Don worked for USF Holland as a bid driver since 1997, and as a driver in the trucking industry for over 30 years. He was a proud member of the Teamsters-Local 200 and served as a Union Steward.
Don was the cherished husband of Susan (nee:Henke) for 35 years, who together raised four children including: Thomas Oakes, Kirsten (Brian) Kasten, Lisa (Joshua) Uttech, and Melissa Oakes. He is survived by four children from a previous marriage: Michelle Oglesbee, Margaret Oakes, Patricia Oakes, and James (Brea) Oakes. He is also survived by his mother, Jeanne Mellen, his mother-in-law, Jane Henke, brother Pastor Dan (Deb) Oakes, and sisters Theresa (Curt) Cook and Karen (Steve) Kile. He was the proud Papa of 11 grandchildren who brought him great joy and much laughter. Don is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was grateful for the friendship of his family of drivers at USF Holland. Don was also proud to be a 40-year “friend of Bill W.”.
Don is preceded in death by his father Donald Marvin Oakes Sr., step-father Hank DeBruin, father-in-law Pastor Howard Henke, brother Robert Oakes, and his youngest daughter, Melissa Sue Oakes.
Most importantly, Don trusted that he was a forgiven child of God and was continually thankful for the grace and mercy of His Savior, Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 2nd, 2019 from 9:30-11am at ST. PAUL’S EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, S. 66 W.14325 Janesville Rd, Muskego, followed by the funeral service at 11am. Interment Wauwatosa Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church appreciated.
We are praying for you and your family. This is sad but also joyous! Don is with Our Savior and Our Lord! What a blessing! We can take comfort in knowing we will see him again in our heavenly home above. We will continue to pray as your hearts grieves.
