In Mom’s memory….
“A true friend is a friend at all times, and in all kinds of storms in life,” Donna used to say. Donna Vershowske was like a mother to me during the two years I lived near her as a college student. I remember coming over for Thanksgiving and tasting the delicious dinner she and her husband Lyle would prepare. What I remember the most, though, was the Grandfather clock that kept me awake at night😊, but I also felt welcomed and loved in a home away from my own.
People came and went, but Donna and I stayed connected through the years. I spoke to her on the phone a few weeks ago, she was almost ninety-two years old; she was concerned about the size of her oxygen tank and getting around to run errands, attend church, and do house chores. Her grandson came to visit and help her out once per week, she said; I wished I’d been able to do the same. Other than that, her mind was sharp and her faith in God never failed.
I will never forget Donna. She lived and long, happy life, and for that, I am grateful. I trust she is in a better home, a place without sorrow or physical pain. She is with her husband and the people she loved. From this little place we call Earth, we send her our love, our gratitude, and our tribute to a life well-lived. We will miss you, Donna! -By Luz Villeda
