Dorothy Riemer (Bartelt) was born on May 5, 1928 to Arthur and Clara Bartelt of Thiensville, WI. She was the youngest of four children, Arthur, Robert, and Elizabeth (Robinson). Dorothy graduated from Cedarburg High School and attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL until she married Norm Riemer on August 21, 1948. Dorothy was a partner in ministry with Norm serving as a primary grade teacher, organist and secretary at Lutheran congregations throughout the Midwest including St. John in Racine, WI, Zion in Chebanse, IL, St. Paul in Napoleon, OH, Emmanuel in Ft. Wayne, IN, St. Martini in Milwaukee, WI, St. John in Mayville, WI, Pilgrim in Green Bay, WI and Trinity, Milwaukee. She also served as an Administrative Assistant to the Director of Adult Education for Concordia University, Wisconsin.
After she and Norm retired, she complemented Norm’s older adult ministry by playing piano and organ at various nursing homes in the Milwaukee area. After Norm’s death in 2003, Dorothy continued to serve the Lord by volunteering at Alexian Village in Milwaukee performing secretarial duties for a variety of departments. She became a resident at Alexian Village in 2013 until her death.
Norm and Dorothy raised three children, Virginia (John) Oberdeck, Kathleen (Dan) Victorson, and Victoria (Jim) Holbrook. All three daughters graduated from Concordia University, River Forest, IL and pursued teaching careers in Lutheran education. Dorothy is survived by her three children and their spouses as well as seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Dorothy loved music, feeding and watching the birds, her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who referred to her as “Grandma Great.” Most of all, Dorothy loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Dorothy was a warm, caring woman and a great friend in both good and not-so-good times. She was honest and always spoke from her belief in God. I am privileged to have known her. I look forward to seeing her again in heaven. May our great God enfold you in His comfort and richly bless you.
Ginny, Kathy and Vicky,
I have such happy memories of both of your parents. Whether spending time at Timber Trails, or hanging out at your house, their love for each other, and for our Lord, was evident. Please take comfort in the knowledge that they are both with Jesus.
Carol: Thank you so much for your kind words. I know we have lost touch, but do remember you recently had a birthday. Mom will be missed here on earth, but she is surrounded by the love and joy of Jesus! You are kind to remember all of us! Vicky (Riemer) Holbrook
Ginny,
I am so sorry to hear of your mother’s death. May the Good Lord comfort you and all her loved ones now. Both my parents are gone too, and it becomes a real lonesome world when that happens. But we can look forward to seeing them again in heaven someday and that is a hopeful thought. God bless you and yours!
