May 23, 2011 age 85 yrs. Beloved husband of Geraldine nee Harderlein. Dear father of Mark and the late James. Further survived by a sister, a niece, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation Fri. May 27th, 11-1pm with funeral services at 1pm at the funeral home. Interment Tues. May 31st , Abbotsford Cemetery. Duane was born Jan. 3, 1926 in Morrison, IL to Fred and Ida Vander Schaaf. He served in the US Navy during WWII aboard two aircraft carriers, the USS Sitkoh Bay and the USS Shipley Bay. He was a graduate of Central College, Pella, IA and received a master’s degree from UW-Madison. He taught in Iowa, Illinois and at Whitnall High School and retired as was a guidance counselor after 37 years in 1987.
