GIGOWSKI, EDMUND JOHN

Edmund, Eddie, Mr. G to some and nick-named Monjek by his late mother arrived into the waiting arms of our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the age of 95. He joins the love of his life and late wife Marian of over 59 years – best friend, dance partner, soul mate, and loving companion. He’ll also be welcomed home by his parents John and Clara Gigowski, and brothers Richard and Raymond.
Eddie was born in West Allis and attended Holy Ghost Catholic grade school graduating in 1932. He completed his HS education at West Allis Central, graduating in 1936.

He served in WWII in the US Army from 1941-45 where he was a member of Battery A 121st Field Artillery and a member/assigned to the 32nd Red Arrow Division. Beginning at Camp Livingston LA for training, he served his country overseas in the Asiatic Pacific which includes the New Guinea, Luzon, Leyte Campaigns as a Mess Hall Sgt., then later re-assigned as a Forward Observer until discharged. In May of 1945 and the day after Eddie’s return from Service he married Marian and another journey began. Together, they entered into the business world of food merchants/ grocery store owners where Eddie as the skilled butcher and meat cutter he leaned as a young man growing up with his father, and Marian as assistant manager and bookkeeper. Businesses owned include Edmar Meats and Groceries , Edmars, and multiple income properties. The Down ‘n Under Bar & Lounge was also a part of their business adventures. In 1967, owned and operated the Quik Check Food and Beverage Center located in Franklin WI for 15 years. He was best known for his fresh specialty cut meats, home-made sausage such as brats, Italian, and breakfast sausage and old fashioned corner store friendliness and hospitality that’s a rare find today. Active in the community as a Monarch member of the Franklin Lions Club, serving as Secretary and President, plus sponsored the Franklin Lions Club Youth Little League Baseball Team. He also maintained his involvement with the 32nd Division Red Arrow Club of Milwaukee, Inc.

Eddie loved music, singing, and dancing. He frequently entertained us by playing his accordion, organ, or harmonica when there was crowd including his Army buddies overseas.

He was an active member of the Greater Milwaukee Britney Club. He enjoyed breeding and raising champion Brittany Spaniel dogs – names include Missy, Coco, Quick Check Chips, Saddles, Saddie, Scat, and enjoyed competing in field trails traveling to various states in the US. He also enjoyed pheasant hunting with his son, Mark along with his trusty horse – a Tennessee Walker – named Boots.

Eddie is survived by his brother Leonard and sister Patricia Gigowski, and Delores Tudy Bieganski along with his children James Lori Lea, Thomas, Ann Marie Ronald Zlensky, Mark, and Laureen Mike Donath.
Grand children: Catherine Toso, Amy Lynn Ed Graczyk, Stefanie Dave Wucherer Gigowski, Marie Jacob Sandlin, AnnMarie Gigowski, Charles and Edmund Berg, Yolanta and Hanya Minta-Gigowski. Great grandchildren: Micah Lynn Graczyk, Aria Rose, Dante and Dawson Toso, and Noah Sandlin. Further survived by 10 step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and loving friends.

A special thanks to staff and management at Birchrock Corners LLC located in Mukwonago, WI plus Hospice staff from Hospice Advantage who cared deeply for Eddie. Your devotion and care is one of a kind – God Bless you for your loving support and dedication in caring for Eddie over the past three years.
Eddie and Marian were devoted to the Holy Family, Jesus, Mary, and Joseph and prayed the rosary avidly. Memorials will be used by the family for masses honoring the deceased Urbaniak and Gigowski family members just as dad always did.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 20 at the Funeral Home from 4-7 pm with Prayer Service at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, November 21 at HOLY APOSTLES CHURCH, 16000 W National Avenue at 10 AM Please meet at church. Interment with Military Honors to follow at St. Adalbert Cemetery.
