Eleanore Gertrude (nee Nau) Massa

92, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021, in hospice care at Tudor Oaks Senior Living Community in Muskego.  Born in Milwaukee on April 2, 1929, to Carl and Clara (Kamrath) Nau, “Ellie” graduated from West Milwaukee High School in 1946, where she played the clarinet and was a drum majorette.  She graduated from business college secretarial school in 1947 and worked as an office manager and secretary to physicians at the Veterans Administration hospital on National Avenue.  Ellie married Donald J. Massa in 1951.  They moved from West Allis to Greendale in 1956.  She raised the three children she bore, and from 1969 three nephews, as well, after the untimely passing of their parents.  She provided tireless love and forged a larger family out of tragedy.  They were longtime members of St. Alphonsus Catholic Parish.  Ellie and her beloved husband were married nearly 68 years until his death in 2018.  They loved to dance and traveled overseas to four continents, as well as throughout the United States visiting their grandchildren.  In the 1960s, Ellie was active in the Greendale Women’s Club chorus.  In retirement in Sun City, AZ, she loved to perform as a chorus line dancer into her 80s in community variety shows. But it was her family and many friends to whom she was most devoted for seven decades.  She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws John and Mary Massa, her husband, and by great granddaughter Olivia Hill.  She is survived by daughter Marcia Hendrickson (Kurt), Madison; sons Michael (Karla Sandrin), Milwaukee; Bill (Cindy), Pewaukee; Jerry (Krystyna), Naples, Fla.; Mark (Maureen Keefe), Indianapolis; and John (Mary), Brookfield; grandchildren Lisa (Brett) Jondle, Madison; Tim (Samantha), Appleton, and Tom Wyngaard, Little Chute; Tyler (Lindsey) Hendrickson, Woodruff; Max and Nick Massa, Wauwatosa; Kelsey and Daniel (Carson Alexander) Massa, Indianapolis; Dawn (Chase) Robertson, Williams Bay; Laura (Bob) Scholke, Wausau; Gavin (Jessica) Massa, Richmond Hill, Ga.; Bailey (Kieran) Montefiore, Royston, England, and Casey (Samuel) Green, Harrogate, England; Haley, New York City, and Mitchell Massa, Madison; and 14 great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ellie’s life with visitation from 2 to 4 pm, Friday, September 24, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 7963 S. 116th Street, Franklin, with Mass of Christian Burial at 4.  Burial will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m., at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 3801 W. Morgan Ave., Milwaukee.  Memorials may be made to St. Martin of Tours Parish, Tudor Oaks and the House of Peace.
