Koetting, Esther Marie

(nee McCarthy) Passed away with family at her side at age 97 on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Bernard, and their daughter Anne. Mother of Mary Brigid (Gordy) Lesch of Eagan, Minn., and Thomas (Amy) Koetting of Milwaukee; grandmother of Colleen, Christopher, Emily, Madeline and Sophia. Esther grew up in Eden Valley, Minn., and remained fond of that time and place, as well as her Irish heritage, throughout her life. She earned a mathematics degree from Marquette University in 1942, and then worked in the engineering department at Allis-Chalmers, rarities for a woman at that time. She married Bernie in 1957 and provided her family with extraordinary love, support, care and devotion. She embodied her Catholic faith and enjoyed a vital prayer life. A member of St. Gregory the Great Parish for more than a half-century, she joined St. Mary Catholic Faith Community in her later years. Esther leaves us with fond memories of family celebrations, classic road trips, homemade breads and desserts, and long conversations at the kitchen table. She offered a tender heart and a helping hand to all. Memorials in Esther’s name can be made to St. Mary School Tuition Assistance Program, or the charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held Monday Jan. 15th at ST. MARY CATHOLIC FAITH COMMUNITY, 9520 W. Forest Home Ave., Hales Corners from 10:30-11:45AM with the Mass of Christian Burial at 12PM (noon). Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
