Feb. 7, 2011 age 79 yrs. Gene married Dorothy E. “Dottie” nee Jenkins Shorts on Dec. 2, 1951. Dear father of Michele Rae Heimark, Kim Lou Ann Christopher Keen and the late infant Angela Jean. Grandfather of Thomas Matthew Heimark, Jr., Jacob Christopher Keen and Sean Michael Henry Keen. Great-grandfather of Arianna Rayne Heimark, Aaliyah Madison Heimark and Helena Kikue Keen. Brother of Juanita Teofilo and the late Harold Shorts, Jr. Brother-in-law of Ronald Kay Jenkins and the late Richard Peggy Jenkins. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation Fri. Feb. 11, 9-10:45 am with funeral services at 11 am at CALVERY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 3177 S. 107th St.
Gene graduated from Ashland High School and attended Ashland Ohio College. He entered the Army during the Korean War. Gene always tried to better himself starting as a home builder, designer of homes, apartments, became involved with Midwest Mortgage, and later became interested in Nursing Homes. This lead him into designing and building a nursing home and became a nursing home administrator. Gene also enjoyed woodworking, refinishing/refurbishing items and fishing.
