Evelyn Stebbins
Went home with her Lord on Dec 2, 2010. Born in Manistique to Florence and Andrew Cooper on 1/02/14, she was 1 month shy of 97. She married DeWayne Stebbins during the Great Depression. As newly weds they were colonists in Alaska to settle the Matanuska Valley. She was a reporter for the Iron Mountain News for 5 years, reporting on colony activities. All 3 of their children were born in Alaska.
After 10 years they returned to Upper Michigan where they farmed for 12 years in Faunus in northern Menominee Cty. During that time she was a 4-H leader for local youth. Later they lived over 40 years in Marquette where she worked as an office manager for NMU.
When DeWayne died in1995 after 60 years of marriage, she lived on her own in Marquette. At 94 she then lived with daughters Kaye Lee Giesen and Lynn George Hansen. The past 16 months she resided in Milwaukee with Lynn, where she maintained long distance ties with her large family.
Evelyn was a Catholic Christian participating in her faith community where ever she lived. She also was a member of Women’s Aglow for nearly 40 years.
She now joins DeWayne, her parents, all 4 younger brothers, and a host of other relatives and friends. She is survived by her 3 children, Kaye, Lynn, and DeWayne Jr Barbara Gatien; also 8 grandchildren; Tim and LeRoy Giesen; Troy and Kurstin Stebbins Beck; Tracy, Jim, and Nicole Bellefeuil Lobash; and Terry Pirlot. She has 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services to celebrate her Life will be on Saturday, 12/11/10 in Bark River. Public visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 AM EST at the Crawford Funeral Home, 1236 US Highway 2/41 Bark Riverm MI. Mass will be at 11:00 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish 1216 12th Road Bark River MI.
I enjoyed working for her. You never knew what she was going to say or do. I think about her all the time. Her family will always be in my thoughts and prayers.
