Franklin F. Proeber, age 84, formerly of Franksville, was called home to the Lord on Monday April 26, 2021. Frank was born December 17, 1936 to Harold and Lena (Mahn) Proeber of Franksville. He was united in marriage to June Foreman on July 7, 1956, who preceded him in death in 2001. He was then united in marriage to Geraldine “Geri” Schilling in 2002, who preceded him in death in 2021.
He graduated from Racine Lutheran High School in 1955. Frank was in the HVAC trade his entire adult life, working for himself, his brother Les, his father-in-law Vernon Foreman, Runge Gas, Seider Heating, Foreman Heating and Wesley Heating. Right up until three days before his death he was “troubleshooting” venting issues for one of the staff at the hospice facility.
In 1967, our parents (with the help of some friends) built our family home where we grew up next to our grandparents and across the road from the farm where Dad grew up. In 1986, Dad and Mom purchased a small cottage on White Lake in Weyauwega, WI, where they spent most of their weekends (remodeling and expanding and trying to relax). In 1995, they sold the family home in Franksville and made the lake home their primary residence. In 2008, after Dad remarried, he and Geri moved to Kiel, WI for six years before moving to Burlington, WI in 2014.
Dad was very involved in church work and on various committees throughout the years: building and grounds committee, board of education, general board, and board of directors. He was president of 3 different churches: Trinity Lutheran Church, Caledonia, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Oakwood, and New Hope Lutheran Church, Caledonia. In 1978, ground was broken at Shoreland Lutheran High School where he would spend the majority of his time (when he wasn’t working) volunteering in helping with the construction of the school and custodial work. He volunteered 3 – 5 nights per week and nearly every Saturday and Sunday. In 1979, the only day he missed being there was Good Friday!
Dad and Mom both worked very hard to ensure that all five of their children had a Christian education—and we are all forever grateful to both of them for that.
Survived by, and loving father of Susan (Bruce) Salzmann of Racine, Jeanne (Rev. Thomas) Nowak of Madison, Raymond (Cindy) Proeber of New Berlin, Sharon Proeber of Racine, and Ann (Ronald) Muller of Racine. Also survived by his sister Dorothy Lemke of Cudahy; grandchildren, Joel (Kori) Hassler, Jared Hassler, Kaitlyn (Rev. Joshua) DeYoung, Kristi (Brandon) Price, Lisa Proeber, Jon (Natalie) Proeber, David (Sarah) Proeber, Andrew (Anne) Muller, and Seth (Jami) Muller; great grandchildren, Indiana and Keira Hassler, Samuel, Isaac and Lucy DeYoung, Clayton Proeber, Georgia and Ivy Proeber, Owen and Elsa Proeber, Luca and Ella Muller, and Annabel, Phoebe and Margot Muller; stepchildren; Kris (Jerry) Tiry, Randy (Patti) Schilling, John (Kim) Schilling and Julie (Gary) Franco; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lena Proeber; his first wife, June Proeber; his second wife, Geri Proeber; his sister Adeline, and brothers Gilbert, Harold, and Leslie Proeber; and his grandson, Justin Hassler.
The family would like to thank the staff at Seasons Hospice in Oak Creek for the loving care they provided Dad in his last days.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, New International Version)
The funeral service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 11, at 10:30 AM with Rev. Daniel Waldschmidt officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 10:30 AM. Burial will take place at Caledonia Memorial Park immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Shoreland Lutheran High School ‘Tuition Assistance’ are appreciated (www.slhs.us and click Donate).
I never had the opportunity and the pleasure to meet Franklin F. Proeber. However working closely and on daily base for many years with 2 of his children, Sharon and Ray, I can imagine the kind of great, respectful, courageous and passionate person he was…. Thank you Franklin for your initial contribution in educating our friends Sharon and Ray as we know them now.
Our thoughts accompany all of you during this difficult period
