Gerald (Jerry) Engelbart passed away on October 20th, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was just 3 days away from his 80th birthday.
Jerry was born in South Milwaukee to Robert and Leora Engelbart. He graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1960. He worked at Bucyrus Erie in his early twenties. He married Vernie Baumann in 1964 and they spent 57 wonderful years together.
During the 70’s he started his own cash crop farming business, Willms and Engelbart, with his best friend Ronny. They grew mainly cabbage, soybeans and corn.
In 2000 he moved to Westfield to enjoy his golden years. He spent a lot of time riding around in his Yamaha Rhino visiting his friends on Lake Burnita and searching for asparagus. He always knew the best spots to pick. He also enjoyed driving his 63 Pontiac Lemans and 65 Bonneville. He kept them in excellent condition. Other hobbies included hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.
Jerry was a hardworking, fun-loving guy who enjoyed being around friends and family. He was always the last one to leave a party. He was such a great storyteller. He will surely be missed by many.
He is survived by his son Jerry (Cheryl) Engelbart. His daughter LeAnn (Buddy) Seager, his grandchildren Amanda (Gavin) Kinsley, Austin Seager, Jeremy Engelbart, Jessica (Tim) Fitzsimmons, Jennifer Lein (Ruben Gonzalez), Jackie Lein (Billy Thelen) and great grandchildren Braylee and McKenna Kinsley, Rayea and Zaiden Fitsimmons, Izzy, Anthony and Leo Gonzalez and Benny Thelen.
He is also survived by his sister Marlene (Bob) Thilges and his brother Bobby (Dorothy) Engelbart.
Gerald was proceeded in death by his beloved wife Vernie Engelbart and his parents Robert and Leora Engelbart.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, November 11th at Heritage Funeral Homes (9200 S. 27th St. Oak Creek) from 1:00-5:00 pm with a memorial service at 5:00.
