Pleva, Rev. Gerald, S.M.
“Fr. Gerry” It has pleased God to call to Himself, the Rev. Gerald Pleva, S.M., on September 25, 2013, at the age of 74. Fr. Gerry taught at Central Catholic High School for eight years, and was Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Helotes for sixteen years, 1991-2006. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on June 15, 1939, to Frank and Madeline (Pfister) Pleva, where he attended Don Bosco High School before joining the Marianists in 1957. He graduated from St. Mary’s University with both a B.A. and an M.A. in the 1960’s, and from St. Basil’s Seminary in Toronto, Canada, where he was ordained to the priesthood in 1977. In addition to his ministry in Texas, he also taught at St. John Vianney and St. Mary’s High Schools in St. Louis, and Thomas More High School in Milwaukee. For four years, Fr. Gerry was Assistant Novicemaster at the S.M. novitiate in Galesville, Wisconsin, a role that he reprised at a 1990 mission in Bangalore, India. From 2007-2011 he was Associate Pastor of St. Anthony’s Parish in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii, before retiring to the Marianist Residence at St. Mary’s University with health concerns. He is survived by a brother, Robert Pleva, of Milwaukee. Memorial visitation will be held Sat. Oct. 26, 9-10 am with Memorial Funeral Mass at 10am at CATHEDRAL OF ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST, 812 N. Jackson St. Interment was held at the Marianist Cemetery at St. Mary’s University.
