Gertrude Carol Martin (nee Mehrstedt), age 92 of Mequon, passed away peacefully in hospice on January 8, 2022.  She was born on August 3, 1929 to Herbert Albert Mehrstedt and Mabel Mercedes Mehrstedt (nee Buechner).  She was married to her love, Merval Henry Martin on August 20, 1949.
Gert and Marty loved to travel, specifically cruising.  Hawaii was always a favorite of theirs.

Gert lived her life to serve others.  She was always sharing baked goods and was a very active and well-known community artist, participating in many art shows and guilds.  Watercolor flowers were her specialty, and she won many awards for them.  They are to this day some of her family’s most prized possessions.  She was also a very talented sewer and knitter, creating many things for church, family and friends.  Her wool socks are highly coveted.  Gert loved big and fiercely.  She loved Jesus and was always praying for whoever she could.  The hole she left will never be filled.

She is preceded in death by her husband Merv, brother Robert Mehrstedt and nephew Brian Mehrstedt.  She is survived by her sister-in-law Karon Mehrstedt, daughter Shirley (Daryl) Hanneman and son Robert (Dorothy) Martin.  Grandchildren Heidi Lifton, Holly (Dan) Siciliano, Kelly (Ben) Dahlberg, Tina (Ross) Hartwick, and Kyle (Amanda) Martin.  Beloved Great Grandchildren, Minnie Beth, Holly Rose and Lily Ann Lifton, Emilio and Madelyn Siciliano, Anna and Wyatt Dahlberg and Everly and Elaina Martin.  And many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service to be held at Christ Alone Lutheran Church located at 247 S Main Street, Thiensville, WI 53092 on Saturday, January 29th, 2022.  Visitation from 9-10:30a.  Funeral Service from 10:30-11:30a.

There is a live-stream option available for family and friends out of town.  If you would like the information on that when we have it, please email Kelly at [email protected]

Special thanks to Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital and Hospice for their sensitivity and kindness.

“When we lose someone we love, we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind.”

Memorials can be sent to Christ Alone Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Lutheran High School or Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School in Gert’s name.
