Tuesday, March 25, 2003, age 93 years. Born February 1, 1910 on a farm in the Oak Creek area to August and Emma Zimmer Werner. He married Ilma Mahr Werner May 29, 1937 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. They lived on Milwaukee’s southside until Ilma’s death in 1986. Herb then moved to Waterloo, Iowa.

He worked for the Heil Co. for 47 years as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was a prolific gardener, a tireless volunteer at Ascension Lutheran Church, an award-winning kite maker and flyer, and a lifelong learner. He could fix anything. He enjoyed traveling, from jaunts across the 48 states in the family’s 1941 Chevy at 45 mph, to tours of Europe and Russia.

He is suvived by his three children and their families: Elaine Bruns and Marty Stallman, LaVerne and Augusto Chang-Silva, Richard and Becky Werner, and six grandchildren, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Ilma, his brother Milton Werner, and son-in-law Marvin Bruns.

Funeral Services will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, Saturday, April 5, at 11:00 AM. Visitation Saturday, 9-11 AM. Interment Arlington Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Herb’s name to your favorite charity or St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN 55057.
