Sunday, January 17, 2021 age 92 years. Loving mother of Beverly Sims. Proud grandma, great grandma and great great grandma.
Imogene was born on September 19, 1928 in Humboldt, Tennessee to Edna Augusta and Ernest King. She was tenth child of the twelve children born to the King family.
Imogene attended Stegall School in Humboldt. She valued her education and decided to advance her studies by enrolling in Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee. Imogene graduated from Lane with a bachelor’s degree. In 1948, she married Henry Vincent Sims. This marriage was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Beverly affectionately called “Twinkle”. The couple lived in Humboldt for four years and later decided to relocate to Chicago. The Sims were progressive career minded people. They wanted to better themselves, expand their social status and elevate their careers. Chicago was the place that offered those opportunities to the young couple. After arriving to Chicago, Imogene enrolled at Roosevelt University and graduated with a master’s degree. She had a rewarding career with Chicago Public Schools as an educator. She retired after forty years. During her college years, Imogene joined one of largest Black female sorority, Delta Sigma Theta.
Imogene was lady of class and character. She enjoyed shopping and being with her family. She was outspoken but most of all, a Christian woman. She was an active member of Carter Temple CME Church in Chicago, IL.
Imogene grow-up in very loving and supportive family unit. Her siblings loved each other unconditionally. She was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother and an extraordinary great grandmother. She believed and taught the importance of education and instilled her values in her daughter.
Imogene departed this life on January 17, 2021. She leaves a rich legacy for her daughter, Beverly Diane; one grandson, Nolan R. Nelson and seven great grandchildren and abundance of nieces and nephews.
Imogene was preceded in death by her husband, brothers, sisters, parents and grandson, Gregory Douglas Guest, Jr.
Visitation Tuesday January 26th at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 6615 W. Oklahoma Avenue from 11am-1:45 pm. Funeral service at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Humboldt , Tennessee.

mrs Imogene K Sims, was Soo caring loving and most of all thoughtful. She loved family and her neighbors which I was one who lived next door to her for years, I will miss her very much, she loved the way I cared for my mother who is Ill and she really admired me for that, while I was living next door to he,I cared for her and her niece Susie O Johnson.until she went to the nursing home.Love Always Porsha Thornton.She will truly be missed.
