Jacqueline L’Herault Hanson Dee, 72, of Milwaukee, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2016, after a year-long struggle with cancer.

Jacqueline was born on May 11, 1944, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Emil and Audré Hanson. At the time of her birth, her father was serving in World War II on the Aleutian Islands. When he returned from the war, the family moved to Fremont, Nebraska. Jacqueline was a gifted student, winning top prizes and graduating as class valedictorian from Archbishop Bergan High School. She went on to Manhattanville College in Westchester, New York where she majored in Russian. After a year, she returned to Nebraska to finish a degree in English at Creighton University where she belonged to Gamma Pi Epsilon, a national Jesuit honor society for women. A Masters Degree in journalism, and a law degree from Marquette followed. While studying at Marquette, Jacqueline served as editor-in-chief of the law review. A short career as a lifestyle reporter for the Omaha World-Herald and other publications was followed by nearly 30 years of practicing law. She was a member of The St. Thomas More and Federalist Societies. After retiring, Jacqueline devoted her free time to her family and to volunteering at the House of Peace where she gave legal advice to the disadvantaged. She was also an avid reader and book collector.

Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents, Audré Kerrigan and Emil Hanson, by her stepfather, John Kerrigan, and by her brothers, Richard and Gregory.

She is survived by her sister, Kristine Casey (William) of Alexandria, Virginia, her sister-in-law, Paula Hanson (Dennis Hein) of Denver, Colorado, her son, T. Christopher Dee (Judith) of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, her daughter, Rebecca Thiele (David) of Hudson, Ohio, five grandchildren, Alexander, Ryan and William Dee, Katherine and Henry Thiele, her cherished nieces, and L’Herault, Messick and Orme cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 28, at 11:00am, with a visitation at 9:30am, at the CATHEDRAL OF ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cathedral, House of Peace, Marquette Law School, Marquette University High School, The Salvation Army, Seton Catholic School (Hudson, OH), and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (Fremont, NE) would be appreciated. Internment in Fremont, NE, will follow at a later date.
