Jan Michael Berg Jr., age 56 of Milwaukee, WI, returned to our heavenly home on Thursday, October 5, 2023. He was the youngest of three children, born in Des Moines, IA on March 22, 1967 to parents, Jan M. and Marilyn J. (Bruch) Berg.
Jan was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Gloria Dei in Urbandale, IA and confirmed at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Rockford, IL. He began his working career in the hospitality industry as a dishwasher and quickly rose through the ranks to become Sous Chef for casual dining restaurants and banquet events. Jan achieved a corporate record for food cost control, demonstrated high standards for kitchen sanitation and safety while training many prep cooks in fundamental kitchen skills. He was a loyal Chicago Bears fan, Trek bicycle enthusiast, and budding chess player. In the face of persistent life challenges, Jan honored himself and his family with incredible resilience.
Jan is survived by his sister, Marcia (Leo) Engstrom and brother Jon (Deanna) Berg; two nephews: Jason Berg, Kyle Berg; aunts and uncles Judy (Robert), Tom (Sandy) Berg. He was predeceased by his parents and grandparents.
A private graveside will be followed by burial at Wolf River Cemetery, Langlade County, WI. Memorial donations may be made to PromiseView (Milwaukee).
