Ott, Janet Edith
(nee Pass) After a wonderful life, Jan died on June 2nd, 2015. She was born in Melrose Park, IL. January 1, 1942, to immigrant parents Bernard of Germany and Edith Medenwald of Canada. She married Donald A. Ott in 1963. She is survived by her spouse, their two children, Denise Shircel and spouse Thomas of Kenosha, WI. and Duane and spouse Megan of Oshkosh, WI.; seven grandchildren, Nicolas, Madelyn, Brady and Kennedy Ott and Tyler, Amy and Cora Shircel; one brother, Ronald and sister-in-law Sharon of Glenview, IL.; cousins Ruth Thiede, Herman Pass, Robert Pass, Susan Peters, David Medenwald, John Medenwald, Mary Kinney and Linda Nazarewicz.
Jan was a friend of Jesus and, with her life in countless ways, displayed the qualities of Christian living to her family and world. She had special ties through The United Methodist Church and commitments to teach, sing, serve and support congregations throughout WI.,MI. and those visited world wide. United Methodist Women and the Bishop’s Spouse’s Association of the International UM Council of Bishops were places of service and friendship. She was a member of Community UMC of Elm Grove, WI. Jan was an involved, contributing, supportive partner of her spouse’s ministry at four congregations in Wisconsin and in Michigan churches and statewide Episcopal endeavors. She advance progressive justice and peace causes and childrens’ and womens’ concerns. Her children and grandchildren were her delight. They gave her energy, desire and joy in every decade. Jan graduated from Carroll College (now Carroll University) in 1963.
A private interment will occur at Highland Memorial Park in New Berlin, WI. A service of Thanksgiving to all who wish will be on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 11AM at Community United Methodist Church, 14700 W. Watertown Plank Rd. in Elm Grove with a meal and fellowship to follow. Memorial gifts may be given to the Janet and Donald Ott Scholarship at Carroll University Waukesha, WI.; or the Don and Jan Ott Scholarship at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, IL.; or Community United Methodist Church Elm Grove, WI. Please no flowers.
