Janet M. Schmal,

Entered into Eternal Life on Friday, April 9, 2010, at the age of 63. Preceded in death by her loving parents Bruno and Marion (Groth) Schmal, her brother-in-law James Drake, her aunt Maria Kohs, her cousins Paul and Manfred Kohs and her cousin Beate Stockdreher. She is survived by her sister Barbara (Schmal) Drake, her cousin Brigitte Gabriel and her god-daughter Christina (Gabriel) Palffy of Arlington Heights, Illinois, and many relatives and loving friends.

Janet was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 17, 1946. She graduated from St. Mary Magdalene Elementary School and Johnson Creek High School – Class of 1964. She received her Bachelor of Education Degree in 1968 and her Master of Education Degree in 1976 from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. She started her teaching career in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She taught 23 years in Oconomowoc (she hoped her students remember her puns), Ashipun Elementary and 6 yrs. as a reading teacher at Sherman Elementary in Milwaukee. Janet was a world traveler having traveled to all 50 states, Canada, China, Jamaica. She drove the Alaskan Highway, was at the Arctic Circle, and all countries in Europe except Spain. Janet was a loyal Cubs fan and hoped they would win the pennant in her lifetime. She was a Docent at the Pabst Mansion for 20 years. She joined Vagabonds when she started teaching and loved downhill skiing at Indianhead every winter. She was an avid reader, talented knitter, did lacework, Ukranian eggs, an archeological dig at the Hermitage, taught reading in Appalachia under the CAP Program and genealogy.

Janet and I want to thank Dr. Osborne, her nurse practitioner Ann Thompson and Mona in the Chemo Clinic at Froedtert Hospital for everything they did for Janet during her 6 year battle with cancer. Thanks also to her Home Care Hospice nurses Meagan and Laura for their loving care. Special thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Columbia-St. Mary’s Hospice for giving her comfort in her last days.

Visitation at the Funeral Home Friday, Apr 16 from 4 – 9:00 PM. Rosary service at 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, Apr 17 at 11:00 AM at Three Holy Women Parish – Holy Rosary Church 2011 N. Oakland Ave. Inurnment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, River Grove, Illinois.

Memorials in Janet’s name may be given to Three Holy Women Parish Legacy Fund or St. Jude’s of Memphis.
