Jill Marie
Snider-Meyer
Jill Marie Snider-Meyer, age 57, passed away peacefully at home, in Franklin, Wisconsin, on May 12, 2018 with her loved ones by her side. She was reunited with her parents and other loved ones in heaven after a courageous journey with ovarian cancer.
Jill, also known as Boss Moss, was born on March 26, 1961 in Petoskey, MI to William and Nola Snider, who preceded her in death. Jill is survived by her beloved and hilarious husband Robert Meyer, her children, Autumn (Wade) Schlichting and Cole (Emily) Meyer and four siblings, Virginia (Greg) Keniston, Sally (Greg) Costa, Tina (Mark) Snider , Al (Elizabeth) Snider, twenty-two nieces and nephews and too many cousins to count. Her zest for life, kind spirit, passion and courage will live through them.
Early in her life, Jill wanted to become a test engineer. She loved to test how items and people would bounce when pushed off a roof. Just ask her sister Tina. In 1983, Jill graduated from Northern Michigan University with an undergraduate degree in social work. Jill met the love of her life in Austin, Texas at a bar. Jill told the story as she saw her future husband in a bar across the room and looked at her aunt and uncle and stated, “He will do.” They were married in Dexter, Michigan, on April 5th, 1986. In 1987, she earned her master’s degree in social work from Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio, Texas. From Texas, the newlyweds traveled to Misawa, Japan, where they lived for 3 years. Following their time in Japan, they moved to Florida, where they were blessed with two children, whom she loved to the moon and back: Autumn and Cole. She then moved her family to Ramstein Air Force Base Germany, where sightseeing as a family became second nature. Throughout her joyous career, Jill held various positions ranging from Family Advocacy Officer in Japan, Transition Assistance Program Manager in Germany, to Social Work Executive in Milwaukee. For the last 18 years, Jill worked at the Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, where she was given the name “The Queen of Everything” for her ability to coordinate staff and head multiple programs to support our veterans. Jill had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She always looked for the good in people and loved to watch them grow professionally and personally. The number of people Jill mentored over the years is countless. Jill’s work ethic, determination and integrity is something we all can strive for.
Jill was a selfless and devoted mother. Her indomitable spirit encouraged her family and friends to persist in the face of struggles and laugh at the little things. She loved to ski in the mountains, read legal thrillers, golf (especially with her husband), scrapbook, attend plays, travel around the world, and camp with her family. Some of her favorite vacations spots include: Whistler, Orlando, Marco Island, Park City, Mexico and Switzerland (where she was in awe with how the moon would appear over the mountains). Jill traveled the world looking for adventure and experienced life to its fullest.
One of her favorite pastimes was watching her kids grow and standing by their sides. Jill encouraged her children to laugh at their own mistakes, take responsibility when things did not go as planned and praise others. Jill taught her kids to trust themselves, respect others and that it is okay to send your food back if it was not how you ordered it. Her children had one of the best role models a person can ask for.
Jill was a person of faith and lived life serving others. Jill is now in the safety of the arms of Jesus and enjoying a round of golf with her dad while her mom drives the cart. Make no mistake, Jill is not gone, she is alive in all of us. Her smile, laughter, quick humor and yes, that “look”, will live with us forever.
Her husband, daughter and son would like to thank family and friends that supported her pre- and post-cancer diagnosis, the oncology and radiology team at Columbia of St. Mary’s, the oncology team at Mayo Clinic-Rochester and VITAS Healthcare. Special thanks to the nurses at Columbia of St. Mary’s who always added much love and laughter to Jill’s treatments.
