Private Burial

Joan Marie Gibbons (nee Hagie) age 85 died March 6th at Azura Memory Care in Oak Creek, WI. Joan was born in Milwaukee on February 9, 1935 to John and Margaret Hagie. At a young age Joan learned valuable life skills as a homemaker as her mother and sister spent significant time quarantined at the Muirdale Tuberculosis Sanitorium. She graduated from Milwaukee Pius High School and attended secretarial college. In 1955 she married William Gibbons and they enjoyed 42 years together. She worked for many years as an executive assistant and served as the Clerk of Courts for the city of Franklin. She volunteered with the Franklin Health Department and organized an ostomy support group following her treatment for colon cancer. She was an active member of St James Catholic Church in Franklin for 62 years. Joan loved to talk and enjoyed time spent with family, friends and neighbors. She was generous with her time and resources, proudly helping finance the college education of all her grandchildren. The family would like to express gratitude to the staff of Azura Memory Care and St Croix Hospice as they comforted and guided Joan through the torment of dementia. Survivors include her son Tom (Ann) of Coon Valley, WI and grandchildren Haley, Brenna and Tanner; son Bob (Cheryl) of Oak Creek, WI and grandchildren Jessica, Heather and Christina; great-grandchildren Jayden, Mylo and Kian; sister Kathy Banach; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Margaret, sister Sally and husband Bill. She was very loved and will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 13, 2020 from 830-10AM at ST. JAMES CATHOLIC CHURCH (7219 S. 27th St.).  Followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10AM. Private Burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials to the family will be distributed to the Alzheimer’s Association and St James Church.
