Died of complications of Lung Cancer Saturday September 4, 2011 age 68 years. Beloved husband of Jacquie Thompson nee- Briggs. Loving father of Terry Victor Gasperi, James Yolanda Thompson, Ted Patricia Thompson, Tawny Young and Patrick Aimee Woolsey. Special grandpa of ten. Further survived by other relatives and many good friends. Visitation Wednesday, September 07, 2011 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the funeral home, Rosary at 7:30 . Please meet for Mass of Christian Burial Thursday Sept. 8th at St. Mary’s Catholic Faith Community 9520 W. Forest Home Ave. at 10:00 am. Interment St. Martin of Tours Church Cemetery. Joe was a former Chanel 6 Sports Reporter. Masses appreciated.

In 1965, Joe graduated from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa with a Bachelor of Art s degree. He majored in speech and minored in both journalism and theory of coaching. After college Joe was the sports director of WICS-TV in Springfield, Illinois where he produced and aired one-hour documentaries on Cassius Clay and Stan Musial until 1968.
From 1969 until 1970, Joe was the news director of WKEI Radio in Kewanee, Illinois. There he was groomed for entrance into the management trainee program.
In March of 1972, Joe produced the news for the Wally Phillip s show on WGN Radio in Chicago which was the number one rated radio program in the country. Then in 1974 he became a news reporter and sports anchor/reporter for Tv6 in Milwaukee. Joe won the Milwaukee Press Club award for best sports report twice and spot news report once.
From 1982 to 1984, Joe syndicated Joe Thompson sportscasts to 17 Wisconsin radio stations, Tom Butenhoff s financial reports and a daily feature called Staying on Top with Bob Long. He was also the part-time marketing agent for Kidder Peabody with the responsibility of setting up speeches and seminars for Butenhoff.
In 1984, Joe became a stockbroker with Blunt Elli & Lowei and Windsor Financial until 1987 when he and his wife Jacquie ran two frozen yogurt shoppes until 1990. During the summer months, Joe and Jacquie sold cones and sundaes at church festivals on the weekends.
