John David
Lewein
Lewein, John D.,
Born April 20, 1940 passed away January 8, 2011 age 70 years. Devoted husband of Margaret Peggy Nee Shoup. Loving father of Russell, Daniel Vicki. Proud grandfather of Eva. Dear brother of Richard. Preceded in death by his parents John and Anne along with his step-brother Jack. Survived by other relatives and friends.
Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday January 18th, from 4-7PM with a Memorial Service to follow at 7PM.
John proudly served his country as a hospital corpsman in the United States Navy, serving state-side then on the USS Forrestal and USS Intrepid fom 1962-68. On July 29, 1967, the USS Forrestal tragically caught fire off the coast of North Vietnam. This was an event that made world wide news and claimed many of his fellow shipmates. As a corpsman, John tended to his fellow crewmen with courage and devotion.
John was also a loyal and dependable employee for the village of West Milwaukee Public Works Department, retiring in 2002.
John was a very honest, quiet, reserved and unique man who never complained. He loved the solitude that the great outdoors provided via camping and fishing. He was very active in scouting, serving as a scout leader. He is now at rest in a place where he is fully restored to complete health and all the fish are biting.
Our family wishes to extend our heartfelt and eternal gratitude to the ICU staff at Aurora s West Allis Memorial and St. Luke s Medical Center s MRICU. Many thanks for your care of John and us in our hour of need.
