John M. Franckowiak

Passed away. Surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 14, 2024 age 86 years.  John is survived by the love of his life, Karen (nee Franke) his wife of 55 years.  Loving dad of Jason (Angela) and Scott.  Proud grandpa of Emma, Augustus, Ethan and London.  Further survived by sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, October 29th from 11:00 am-12:45 pm at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church 9303 South Chicago Rd. Oak Creek, WI 53154.  Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:00 pm. Urn placement St. Matthew’s Church cemetery.

John retired as chief accountant for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel where he had worked for over 40 years.

John loved his family, his friends and the Wisconsin Badgers. He disliked computers, swimming and most of all, cheese. He enjoyed reading, watching sports, and lounging in his cabin up north. He possessed a keen intellect, a relentless work ethic and an unfailingly generous heart. His stoicism and inclination to privacy were legendary but so were his wit and his kindness. John lived long and well. He will be missed.

********

He grew up tough
With not a lot to eat.
Probably just enough
To keep him on his feet.

He was surrounded by brothers and sisters
With whom care did abound.
And he had a loving mother with two misters.
The good one stuck around.

Somehow he survived poison, axes and snakes!
He ate lard not oleo!
He nearly drowned in north woods lakes!
As a mere boy he defeated polio…

Because this country lad’s future was murky,
He accepted the Army’s offer of a job
Then got sent off to Turkey
To decode words, with no grenades to lob.

Then with no time to tarry or caper
It was off to Milwaukee by the lake
To work for the big newspaper
And his fortunes to make.

The Journal gave him a career
But also so much more
For it was here he met Karen
The woman he would forever adore.

They got married
And with a foundation firm
Dear Karen carried
Two stout lads to term

He was an accountant, a husband and a father.
Oh, and a die-hard Badger fan.
If you seek to find his faults you needn’t bother
Above and beyond all he was just a good man.

And though we miss him now so much
We should not fear to face
A world without his touch
Because Sconnie Johnny is off to a better place.
