Age 82. He died of heart failure on September 5, 2005.

Born May 31, 1923 in Mt. Union, PA to Maxwell Wesley Kimmel and Miriam Catherine ?Topsy? nee Hollin/Holland. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years of loving companionship and marriage, Mary Elizabeth Hubbell Kimmel. He was the devoted father of his four children: Marjorie Maxine Kimmel Hlava of Albuquerque, NM, Lawrence John Kimmel of American Embassy, Baghdad, Iraq, Kathleen Patricia Kimmel VerKuilen of Evansville, WI and Glenn Howard Kimmel of Davenport, CA. He has four grandchildren, John and Adam VerKuilen, Heather Hlava Kotula and Holly Hlava, and on great grand child. Alison R. Kotula.
John lived a wonderful life filled with service to the nation and community where he lived. He was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout as he graduated from Milton Hershey High School. He graduated from Hershey Junior College in Hershey, PA in 1940. He attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, MI, graduating with a degree in Forestry. During World War II, from 1943-1945 he served in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he began his career in the lumber business, working in the logging industry in the redwood country of Northern California during the late 1940?s and early 1950?s. He then returned to the University of Michigan for graduate study in the Department of Forestry. He then moved his growing family to Wisconsin, settling in the town of Raymond, Racine County. He was the President and Owner of Lake States Lumber Company and also Lifetime Roofing Company.

John enjoyed traveling the world and exploring nature and history-a trait he passed on to his entire family. He was a student of the world around him. He was a thoughtful and loving person, devoted to the betterment of our world. He was a lifelong patron of the Arts, as well as an excellent tenor vocalist throughout his life, and particularly at Raymond United Church of Christ where he spent over 50 years in the choir.
He was loved in life and will continue to be loved in our memories!

Viewing and visitation will be held Sun., Sept. 11 from 4-7pm and again on Mond., Sept. 12 from 12:00 until 2:00 Pm with a Memorial Service at 2:00PM at Raymond Community Church, United Church of Christ, 8217 West Country Trunk Highway G, in Raymond. All are welcome.
