John W. Winter

John William Winter was a beloved husband, father, and grandpa. Born on September 29, 1933, in Merrill, WI and was born to eternal life on Saturday, October 19^th, 2024, at the age of 91.  Devoted husband for over 64 years to Darlene (nee Gierach).  Supportive father to Joe Winter and Tom (Sandy) Winter. Loving grandpa to Amanda, Matthew, Hannah and Michael. Brother to Maria Mueller and brother-in-law to Marian Winter. Brother-in-law to Brian (Deanna) Gierach. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Amanda Winter, his brother Paul Winter and brother-in-law Herbert Mueller.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 26^th, from 2-2:45pm at Hales Corners Lutheran Church (12300 W. Janesville Rd.).  The funeral service will begin at 2:45pm.  Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, New Berlin on Monday, October 28^th.

John’s life was a testament to hard work, planning and versatility. He embraced building and remodeling projects for others. He worked various jobs including dairy farmer, milkman, cranberry raker, plumber, pipefitter, electrician, and carpenter. Throughout his life, John’s skilled hands and compassionate heart endeared him to many.

Married to his beloved Darlene on August 6, 1960, at St. John’s Lutheran in Merrill, John’s devotion to his family was unwavering. He found fulfillment in supporting his children and cherishing time spent with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s many sporting events.

John’s legacy extends beyond his professional pursuits. An active member of his church, John was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merrill. He found joy in playing softball, dartball, horseshoes and Sheepshead and singing in the church choir.

A man of many talents, John’s memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we come together to honor John’s memory, let us reflect on the invaluable impact he made on our lives. May his spirit guide us in the days ahead as we carry on his legacy of strength, compassion, and love. Rest in peace, John.
