Steele, Joseph A.

Passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the age of 75. Survived by his beloved wife Genie of 45 years and his son Joe. Will be greatly missed by his baseball buddies, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and wonderful friends. He will be especially missed by his dear furry friends.  Preceded in death by his parents and two of his three brothers.

Joe was very proud of being the first in his family to graduate college; graduating summa cum laude from Lewis University in Lockport Illinois. He was very proud of his various accomplishments; he and Genie completely renovated their own home and built a phenomenally welcoming yard. He was an accomplished investment analyst and had an incredible knowledge of computers. He was also very talented with fixing cars and enjoyed boating in his free time.

Joe was truly passionate about all things baseball and played for 65 years. He was proud to be a manager and catcher for the Milwaukee and Phoenix Braves and the catcher for Chicago North team. Joe loved the Cubs and the Brewers.

Special thank you to Glen and Mimi Spence for all their ongoing help and support, especially during Joe’s difficult time. Also thank you to Don Weir and to the nursing and palliative care staff of 9C North of the Clement J Zablocki Veteran Medical Center for their care.

Private services will be held at a future date.
