Went home to Heaven peacefully on December 24, 2012, age 90 years. Loving father of five surviving children; Karin Meier, Dr. William (Gaye) Otto, Virginia (Richard) Rechlicz, Timothy (Sandy) Otto and Dr. Susan Otto. Karl is further survived by a half-brother Robert (Mary Beth) Otto and 11 cherished grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other family members and many close friends. Karl was preceded in death by his beloved son Thomas, brothers Rev. Rudolph and Dr. Theophil Otto and sister Ruth Otto.
Visitation Friday, December 28, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at BETHLEHEM EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, N 84 W 15252 Menomonee Ave., Menomonee Falls, WI., followed by the Funeral Service at 7:00 PM. Private interment at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
Karl was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 1946 and served in the W.E.L.S. for 27 years at congregations in Charles City, Iowa (1946-1947) and St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Wauwatosa (1947-1973). Karl also travelled for a year to Vietnam preaching to US soldiers in the region. Karl served as Executive Director of the Martin Luther Memorial Homes of Michigan from 1973 to 1992. He preached often in lower Michigan and then semi-retired and continued his ministry as Chaplain at Wisconsin Lutheran Child and Family Service in Milwaukee until 1995.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rev. Otto’s name to Bethlehem Ev. Lutheran Church or Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary are appreciated.
