LaVerne “Vernie” Engelbart age 76 passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on May 8th after her long fight with pulmonary fibrosis.

Vernie was born on March 15, 1945 in the town of Franksville to Frank and Marie Baumann.  Vernie graduated from WM Horlick High School in 1963.   She met her lifelong sweetheart Jerry and was married April 18, 1964.  After high school, Vernie worked at Johnson’s Wax for about a year and then started her family.  She then joined her husband and their best friends Ronny and Maria Willms growing cabbage in a successful farming business for the next 25 years.  Once retired from farming Vernie worked at Ametek from 1987 through 1997.  In 2000, Vernie and Jerry moved up to Westfield to enjoy their retirement years.

Vernie loved spending time with her family.   Her hobbies included bowling, fishing, playing cards, cooking and baking, snowmobiling, UTVing, watching Wisconsin sports and embroidery.  She was really proud when she bowled a 286 in a state tournament and received a beautiful ring.

Vernie was a very giving person.  She would always make sure everyone was taken care of.  She always had a smile on her face and never complained.  She loved to have fun and rarely did you see her at a party without a blinking piece of jewelry on.

Survivors include her husband Gerald and her children Jerry (Cheryl) Engelbart and LeAnn (Buddy) Seager, her grandchildren Amanda (Gavin) Kinsley, Austin Seager, Jeremy Engelbart, Jessica (Tim) Fitzsimmons, Jennifer Lein (Ruben Gonzalez), Jackie Lein (Billy Thelen) great grandchildren Braylee Kinsley, Rayea and Zaiden Fitzsimmons, Izzy, Anthony and Leo Gonzalez, and Benny Thelen.

She is also survived by sisters Audrey Fix, Ellie Heinrich, Shirley Kortendick, Lois Malicki and brothers Francis (Carol) Baumann, Florian (Betty) Baumann and Ray Baumann, sister-in-law Marlene (Robert) Thilges, brother-in-law Bobby (Dorothy) Engelbart, her Godchildren Terri Marcell, Jenny Nelson and Laura Choinski.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Vernie was proceeded in death by her parents and in-laws Robert and Leora Engelbart, her brothers John Baumann and Gene Baumann, her sister Marilyn Perekovich, brothers-in-law Larry Malicki, Bernie Heinrich, Ken Fix, Jerome Kortendick, Frank Perekovich and her Godson Joe Fix.

A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 26th, at Heritage Funeral Homes (9200 S. 27th St. Oak Creek) from 3-5:30pm with a memorial service at 5:30pm.
