Leon Risser
August 10, 1949 – June 20, 2024
Leon Risser, aged 74, of West Allis, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2024. Born and raised in West Allis, Leon was one of five boys. He attended the University of Wisconsin, where he met the absolute love of his life, Patricia. Their bond was unbreakable, and they shared a deep and enduring love. He always said she was the best thing to happen to him, and he was not wrong.
In 1972, Leon, along with his brother Willis, founded what would become a highly successful photo finishing company, Risser Color Service. His dedication and hard work were instrumental in the company’s growth and success. Throughout his life, Leon was a pillar of support for his beloved wife Patricia, standing by her through her illnesses and challenges, and supporting her through law school.
Leon was a survivor, battling and overcoming non-Hodgkin lymphoma and brain cancer. Despite these life altering challenges, he went on to enjoy 25 more years as a devoted husband and a loving father. His resilience and strength were truly inspiring.
Leon had a passion for baseball, a fondness for Larry David, and an undeniable love for ice cream. Known for his goofy sense of humor and his kind heart, he brought joy and laughter to everyone around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Though he has left this world, there is solace in knowing that he looked forward to being reunited with Patricia in eternity.
Leon is survived by his children Michael and Emily. His memory will be cherished by all those whose lives he touched.
A memorial visitation will be held at Saint John’s On The Lake (1840 N Prospect Ave, Milwaukee) on Thursday, July 25th, from 1-2pm with a memorial service to follow at 2pm.
Leon was a treasure. He was kind, thoughtful, smart and, above all, lived to hep others. He was good natured and had a great sense of humor. He has such an impact on so many people. God bless him as he enters heaven to be with his beloved Pat. So fortunate to have had him in our lives.
Emily and Michael, I have never read a more beautiful (and accurate) tribute. Leon was special to so many and always a fun guy with an optimistic spirit. We miss our nights out exploring new restaurants Pat had heard about, generally ending with ice cream at a favorite spot. It is rare to find friends you can have spontaneous fun with, and still have serious conversations with. I think of them every day.
It’s been awhile since I have seen Leon, but we had great times in Madison.
