Leslie M. MacIntyre
Dear Aunt Leslie flew away home the evening of November 25, 2023, at the age of 96.
Leslie grew up on Ledgeview Avenue in Fond du Lac, WI, in a home built by her father. She had one brother and three sisters. The great joy of her family and other generations to come was the cottage on Long Lake in Waushara County, Wisconsin. The cottage was built by her father with the help of the kids. To the delight of nieces and nephews, Leslie and her siblings shared countless hours of stories about the cottage.
Leslie attended the University of Wisconsin—Madison at a time when the college became known for students sharing opinions and wanting to see social change. This suited Leslie well as she was a woman who was very willing to share her opinions. She was a strong woman who didn’t shy away from what she believed.
Leslie won a Ford Fellowship that allowed her to spend 14 months traveling Europe and the Middle East from 1954 to ‘56. She was very proud of her 36 years teaching high school English. For 24 years, from 1963 to 1987, she taught at Homestead High School. She was the English Chair for 23 years. She wrote collaborative guides for better writing and grammar skills, as well as the textbook Grammar and Writing.
An energetic domestic and international traveler, Leslie loved exploring with friends. She always returned with wonderful stories to share with loved ones. In 1993, Leslie found her home with Our Lord’s United Methodist Church. The family extends great thanks to her church family for the many years of support and great love they have shown her. Leslie became a Certified Lay Speaker and presented her first sermon in 1998. Leslie officiated a great-niece’s wedding in 2003. She leaves a tremendous legacy of love and service. Leslie taught us things about social issues, life, and love that continue today. She had a gentle way of living her life on her terms and sharing her views in a teaching way with family.
She is survived by younger sister Nancy MacIntyre Oestriech of Montana and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Donations may be made to Our Lord’s UMC in New Berlin, WI.
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 2-3pm followed by a service at 3pm at Our Lord’s United Methodist Church 5000 S. Sunny Slope Rd. New Berlin, WI 53151.
Remembering with warm thoughts of our time at Our Lord’s and Leslie’s friendly greetings as we entered the church. Always a smile!

Leslie was an amazing, gifted teacher, one of the best I had throughout my student career. I still remember her Biblical Allusions class. She taught by storytelling.
She lived a huge life and touched so many.
With heartfelt condolences,

Leslie was first person to greet us when we walked into Our Lord’s for the first time. She quickly memorized our names and warmly greeted us every Sunday. We loved to hear her stories about her travels and enjoyed hearing insights and willingness to keep learning in Bible studies. She was a strong warrior for our Lord. I will remember her fondly.
Leslie MacIntyre was an outstanding educator. She played a very critical role in my evolution as a writer, and is one of the two teachers I most admire from my days at Homestead High School. Shamey Cramer, HHS Class of ’78
I had Senior English from Miss MacIntyre in 1968-69. learned so much from her. I still think back to how she challenged me to think about what I read – how wonderful she had a long life!

Leslie was the head of the English Department at Homestead when I was hired there in 1983 and she was my mentor until her retirement. Encouraging, straightforward, loyal, Leslie always had my back. I loved her dry sense of humor and her practical tenderness. A leader in the best possible sense, she made the members of her department feel great confidence in their abilities and great motivation to keep improving. I know I owe the success I enjoyed as a teacher primarily to her. Thank you, beloved Leslie.
