 James “Jim” J. Lila

Passed into eternal life surrounded by his family on February 19, 2024 at the age of 86 years. Beloved husband of the late Barbara Lila (nee Petroske). Loving father of the late Danny Lila, Cindy (Amante) Udarbe, Craig (Kim) Lila and Cathy (Dan) Thiry. Proud grandfather of Cole, Taylor, Ben, Sammy, Brett, Joe and Tim. Great-grandfather to Violet.  He was preceded in death by his father (Julian), mother (Maryann), and siblings (Clifford, Georgeanna, and Ramona).

Jim was born January 28, 1938 in Amherst Junction, Wisconsin.  He proudly served in the Air Force following high school.  He moved to the Milwaukee area to attend Marquette University.   He was recruited by IBM while at Marquette and enjoyed working as a field engineer for IBM for 32 years.  He met the love of his life in Rochester, MN while at a training for IBM.   They married February 16, 1963.

In his free time Jim loved fishing, hunting, boating, gardening, watching sports (especially the games involving his children and grandchildren), spending time outdoors, and traveling. But most of all, he loved family gatherings that involved lots of food, beer and conversation. He was a wonderful storyteller as he recounted all of his life’s adventures.  Jim was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.   He was a gifted handyman who could repair just about anything.

A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, March 9th, 2024 at ST. STEPHEN’S CATHOLIC CHURCH (1441 W. Oakwood Road, Oak Creek) from 9:00AM-11:00AM with a Memorial Mass at 11 am. Military honors and burial to follow at HOLY SEPULCHER CEMETERY (3800 E College Ave, Cudahy).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the PAN Foundation Grant are appreciated.

Jim was a great friend and will be missed by all. Jim put in many years as a volunteer at St. Matt’s fish boils. I also knew him from working at the phone company office on Howell avenue in Oak Creek. I also liked visiting with him at his house or at Johnson’s where beer was served and stories told! I’ll miss this too..
