Last, Lorraine Ellen
nee Swanson died peacefully at the age of 90 early Sunday morning, March 18, 2012 with her grand-daughter Nora at her side. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Ethel Engbring Swanson, her loving husband, Clarence, dear sister Doris Martin Kachigan, beloved son Timothy Tim, sister-in-law Carol and sister-in-law Virginia Ginny and her good friend Martin Plale. Survived by siblings Russell, Lee and Sharon Donald Nagy, brother-in –law Martin Kachigan and children Robert, Gretchen, Ellen and Randall Russ Ann; grandchildren Susan, Robert, Jonathan, David, Kevin, Nora and Sian; 4 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter as well as many relatives and friends. After graduation from Cudahy High School, Lorraine settled in Oak Creek, where she lived for nearly 70 years and was active in civic affairs, including support of the struggle to establish the City of Oak Creek and its schools and served many years as an election polling monitor. She continued as a Girl Scout leader for many years after her daughter Ellen was grown and off to college, was long-time Treasurer of the Women’s Guild of St. Luke’s UCC and a supporter of PTA, Cub and Boy Scouts, and the Grobshmidt Senior Center in South Milwaukee. Lorraine worked at Woolworth’s and Drew’s retail stores in South Milwaukee and loved her work as a Welcome Wagon hostess in Oak Creek. She was an avid knitter and enjoyed travel and time spent with her card club, sometimes playing cards. Lorraine passed along to her children the importance and value of family and will be missed by the extended family and friends she cared for so much. The family thanks the staff at South Shore Trinity Hospital and also the staff at Zilber Family Hospice for the care and comfort they provided to Lorraine. They also suggest that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to St. Luke’s UCC Church South Milwaukee or the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin – SouthEast or the organization of the donor’s choice. Internment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 3. Visitation Tuesday April 3, from 3-4PM at St. Luke’s UCC 2200 18th Avenue, South Milwaukee with a funeral service at 4PM, followed by dinner in the St. Luke’s Fellowship Hall.
