Kowert, Lucille1929 ? 2005Lucille Kowert was born in Milwaukee on January 25, 1929 to Robert and Bertha Bogen. A graduate of West Milwaukee High School 1946 and Downer State Teachers? College now UW-M in 1950, in music education, Lucille taught in various Milwaukee county public schools. Her career as a church musician began at age16, and after marrying Rev. Frederick A. Kowert in 1953, continued in Jesup, Iowa 1955-1962 and at Grace Lutheran Church in Oak Creek, Wisconsin 1962-1986. Following Fred?s death in 1986, Lucille served as music director at Trinity Lutheran Church in South Milwaukee until she retired in1997. Friends will remember her leadership with Youth and Senior Choirs, Bible Studies Sunshine Mornings, leadership retreats, Reformation Rally mass choirs, two new pipe organ drives and a grief counseling program at Trinity Hospital. An avid traveler, Lucille led numerous group tours through Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. She was member of the Lutheran A Cappella Choir, and served on their Executive Board. She also took pride in the many young people to whom she taught piano and pipe organ. Following the onset of Alzheimer?s Disease and some mild strokes, Lucille moved to Madison in 2003. She lived first with her son and then at Oakwood Lutheran Homes, where, following a severe stroke, she was called to her eternal home, on September 24, 2005. She is survived by two sons, David Christie of Charleston, S. Carolina and Daniel Christa of Madison, Wisconsin, a daughter, Mary Albrecht Dan of Belvidere, Illinois, a daughter-in-law, Lynn of Crown Point, Indiana, her eight grandchildren, in whom she took great interest and pride, along with cherished nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends who join her family to mourn her passing and celebrate her life.Visitation will begin at 12:30pm on Sunday, October 2, at GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3401 E. Puetz Rd. in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, followed by a Service of Celebration at 4:00pm. The interment will take place on Monday at Pinelawn Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kowert Scholarship Fund, c/o Grace Lutheran School, 8537 S.
